## NU Concepts Is A Business Driven By Passion & Practicality
Its owner, Architectural Technologist Vishal Verma, is passionate about creating living and working spaces that both look attractive and are also practical and fit for purpose: meeting his clients’ needs now, and into the future.
Growing up in India, Vishal loved to draw and, with an uncle who was an architect, he saw first-hand what a rewarding career it was. Studying architecture at university was a natural progression for him. After gaining a Diploma in architecture, he came to Sheffield Hallam in England to take his learning to the next level, and chose a degree in Architectural Technology, graduating in 2006.
He gained valuable experience in large architectural practices in London and Birmingham before deciding to launch his own firm in 2011. Alongside his own projects, he has carried out consultancy for well-known Manchester names such as BDP and Hodder & Partners, who wanted to utilise his specialist technical skills in construction.
## He Says:
*‘For domestic projects, I love working closely with my clients - listening to what they need from their property, how they are going to use it, and thinking through how to turn their aspirations into reality. *
*‘It’s the same principle for commercial projects – identifying the requirements clearly, using my knowledge and experience of making space work, and finding the best possible way to achieve what is required.’ *
## Architectural Technologists & Architects
Both architects and architectural technologists can offer the full range of services - concept design, production of construction drawings and management of construction projects (if required). How the service differs is often very subtle. As a rule:
- Architects tend to have more experience and training in the aesthetics and spatial aspects of a project.
- Architectural technologists are generally more experienced in the science and technology of buildings, particularly how and why buildings are constructed in particular ways with certain materials.
As you’d expect, in practice there is a lot of overlap in experience, skills and interest. Some architects will also focus on building construction while some architectural technologists, like NU Concepts, will really emphasise aesthetics as well as the technical aspects of a design.
